Episode 151: The Embalmed Bandit
This week Bro History class is in session as your Professors Richard and Shawn take you to the Old west. Well actually it’s a few years after the old west. The two follow the interesting life of Elmer J McCurdy. A soldier, train robber, bank robber, and failed Wild West Criminal.
McCurdy’s life starts out already behind the 8 Ball as his Mother was unmarried when she became pregnant. During the late 1800’s this was a very much looked down on but to make matters worse she didn’t know who the father was. There were numerous rumors that it actually may have been her cousin.
To Get some stability in his life Elmer J McCurdy joins the army and becomes an explosive expert. During this time they used Nitroglycerin. Using the knowledge gained in the Military McCurdy recruits some fellow bandits to Rob a train. Unfortunately the explosion doesn’t go to plan and little money is gained.
McCurdy attempts two more robberies in his career a bank and another train. Both didn’t turn out as planned and ended in a shootout with some local sheriffs. This is when the second tale of McCurdy begins.
After being embalmed by a local undertaker McCurdy’s body goes on a Weekend at Bernies style ride. McCurdy goes from being on display by the undertaker, to traveling carnivals, to traveling exhibits, to being on display at movies, to actually being in a movie. How did no one know this was a human body?
