Opinion: Some Words About 2020
Note: The opinions expressed in this article are my own. They’re not the opinions of Podbros Network or anyone that’s hosted a show through us.
I hope you’re all doing well. I normally don’t reserve this space for any serious writing, especially anything political. In fact, I rarely write or do anything creative these days. However, I felt like I wanted to share some thoughts with you about how 2020 has been going.
This year has been unbelievable. I’ve typed and deleted a few paragraphs that try to summarize what I’m thinking and feeling.
I keep having this sinking feeling that people are starting to lose their minds at every little thing, upset about not being able to do kettlebell swings or whatever dumb shit they could just do at home, upset because Black people would like to not be killed in the streets by people that are supposed to protect them, etc.
It’s been frustrating to watch people show their whole ass on social media because they’re selfish and only care about going to bars or gyms and partaking in risky behaviors that can spread a virus with NO KNOWN CURE OR VACCINE instead of making sure they’re keeping the people around them safe.
They’re so tone deaf that they think literal centuries of systemic oppression isn’t a real thing. Like, if you just comply with the guy sticking a gun in your back you won’t get scared and try to run and then you die suddenly from a nasty case of the 9x19mm virus. Really simple stuff, apparently.
I go back and forth between being scared for Paige, scared for my family, and scared for myself. Sometimes it’s total apathy and defeat.
I’ve jokingly referred to 2020 as the Longest Monday Ever. I quickly realized that it’s one of the worst nightmares we’ve had as a society. Hopefully, we wake up soon. Tomorrow’s only Tuesday.
