3/31/2015 by Pencil and Ink Reviews
When was the last time you were able to sit down and read a comic? Living in a high-tech, fast-paced world today, we often forget to enjoy ourselves in some of life’s more simple pleasures. Sure, some of us might go to the store every Wednesday and grab our comics but as soon as we get home, we put them off to the side and pay attention to other pressing matters like making dinner, paying the bills, or cleaning the house. We find ourselves not as readers anymore but as collectors. It leads us to forget about what is happening within our favorite comic book universes. But still, every once in a great while, there is a comic event so incredible, that we have to make ourselves sit down and read what’s going on. And for all of us DC fans, that event starts this April.
We finally get to see more information come out about DC Comic’s latest event – Convergence. We, at Pencil and Ink Reviews, were graciously given a sneak peek at one particularly exclusive storylinethat will help shape this year’s biggest event. And we are going toshare it with you.
DC Comic’s Convergence will start on April 1stwith Convergence Issue Zero. Convergence is going to be a multiverse crossover nine-part weekly event partaking in a two month span between April and May. What little we do know about the event is that Brainiac has trapped forty cities from past and current timelines onto a single planet. DC’s biggest villain plans on allowing the folks from each of these timelines and worlds to meet for the first time. We have not been given a reason as to why Brainiac has chosen to do so but we are told that we will find out why through this event. As Brainiac disappears, a new character, Telos, arises and unleashes these characters into a great conflict. Dan DiDio, a co-publisher of DC Comics, has stated that readers will see some past storylines finally get their endings resolved.
One of these stories has to do with Earth Three’s Crime Syndicate. This supervillain group consists of Ultraman, Superwoman, Owlman, Power Ring, and Johnny Quick, the counterparts to the Justice League from Earth One. In this first issue, the supervillains are trying to save Superwoman as she finds herself on death row. If this wasn’t enough, the group will be battling the One Million Universe’s Batman and Superman!
The Crime Syndicate has a lengthy past, having battled Earth One’s heroes as early as 1964. With such great powers, comes a troublesome group of foes matching and sometimes exceeding in strength and abilities with the Justice League of America. If you’re wanting a book that has a rich past, then Convergence: Crime Syndicate is it. As you’ll see below, DC Comic’s has given you, the readers, an exclusive look at two pages coming right out of Issue One!
Convergence: Crime Syndicate #1 goes on sale April 29th. It is written by Brian Buccellato, with art done by Phil Windslade. There are two covers to this issue, the main one created by Windslade and a variant cover by Chip Kidd. It’s 32 pages of a telling story that is sure to leave the reader wanting more. Ever wonder what happened to one of the most powerful super villain teams? Find out more in this first issue!
