Evolve 131 Review
We’ve got videos now! Well, they’re typically just one of us talking over a static image, but we’ve finally moved into making TAWF videos. I’m very excited about this development and I hope all of our supporters are as well.
The Evolve 10th Anniversary Show (or Evolve 131) took place on July 13th, 2019. It was the first independent wrestling promotion to be streamed on the WWE Network. This was something that was in the works for the last few years as rumors of Evolve and Progress Wrestling making a move to the WWE platform circulated. Now, I hate to be a “Well, Actually” Guy but this technically isn’t Evolve’s 10th Anniversary Show. It would be Dragon Gate USA’s 10th anniversary. Apparently, when you combine two promotions, you combine their start dates as well.
Wrestlers from WWE NXT and 205 Live appeared on this show due to their previous connections to DG USA and Evolve. Drew Gulak and Matt Riddle, former Catch Point stablemates, did battle in a “reunion” match. Akira Tozawa, a Dragon Gate and DG USA standout, battled Adam Cole in the main event for the NXT Championship. Cole’s inclusion is kind of weird because according to Pro Fight DB, he made four appearances in Evolve and two in DG USA, losing all but one match (he’s really good at the beating Johnny Gargano thing).
